Position: Director of Health and Social Services Job Type: Full-time, permanent The Yuulu?il?at? Government is a modern treaty government located in the community of hitac?u on the west coast of Vancouver Island, on the eastern shore of Ucluelet Inlet. The Yuulu?il?at? Government is a member of the Maa-nulth Treaty Society and, through the Maa-nulth First Nations Final Agreement, is a modern treaty Nation operating with a government-to-government relationship with Canada and the province of British Columbia. As a Self-Governing Indigenous Government, the Yuulu?il?at? Government continues to promote education, culture and community programs that enhance Yuulu?il?at? identity. Position Summary The Director of Health and Health and Social Services provides overall leadership, direction and support for the planning, funding, negotiations, development, delivery, financial management, and administration of Yuulu?il?at?? Government Health and Social Services, including health, family care, youth, social development, education liaison, adult education, and preschool / daycare programs. This position also participates in the development and implementation of Emergency Preparedness Plans. Qualifications Training, Education and Experience Bachelor s Degree (Master s Degree preferred) in Health, Social Work, Education or related field. 8-10 years of directly related experience with 2-3 years at a management level within 2 or more program areas. Experience developing and managing a variety of social services programs. Experience developing program policy. Experience researching, developing, and managing funding proposals. Experience working with related regulations and professional practices and standards. Experience in planning, developing, and implementing culturally appropriate programs and community-based service delivery. Current Class 5 BC Driver s Licence Satisfactory criminal records check. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to manage and mentor a team of professional and administrative staff. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills including conflict resolution. Ability to think analytically at a strategic level while working in an environment where priorities may change based on community needs. Well-developed writing skills. Financial literacy skills. Strong cultural sensitivity and understanding. Able to build caring relationships built on trust. Knowledge of mental health and substance abuse. Knowledge of the BC Health Care system, First Nations Health Authority and community supports and services. Understands social determinants of health within Indigenous communities. Knowledge of early childhood education, K-12 and post-secondary education systems. Excellent client service skills. Friendly, positive, responsive, professional, and helpful. Ability to exercise and model a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality. Able to work independently as well as working within a collaborative team framework. Intermediate computer skills including MS Office. Genuine respect for Yuulu?il?at?? traditions, culture, and protocols. Benefits The Yuulu?il?at?? Government is a living wage employer.
